What

are we already doing?

What instructional strategies and structures are currently working in our school?

This is an abbreviated list of some of the structures and supports that we have been using that support the development of our School Learning Plan.  It is by no means a comprehensive list, but illustrates some of the collaborative ands unique pedagogy that teacher have put in place to build on a culture of reflection for our students.

  • Unstructured Play – both intermediate and primary students have utilized this pathway to work with their students in different ways.

  • Incorporating Aboriginal Ways of learning and knowing into daily practice.

  • Buddy projects and a school focus on developing empathy

  • Mind-up and Second Step programming that focus on self-regulation

  • RTI re-structure to accommodate the need to provide “invisible interventions” for competencies like creativity and critical thinking.

  • Primary Literacy Folders – creates continuity in primary learning targets for reading/writing and oral language.

  • Ongoing collaboration between teachers and in collaborative teams (intermediate and primary)

  • Inquiry projects jointly planned across classrooms and in multi-aged groupings

  • Continued leadership opportunities for students

  • Providing School-Wide opportunities for students to be “part of the School”(Airband, Christmas concert, open mic lunch jams)

  • Increasing use of technology around My Blueprint and MAP as pathway to learning

  • MyrtleEd Talks -  all intermediate students participate in a school wide TedTALK production and a multi-school evening at Millennium Place.

  • Circles process – Teachers are using the process of circle time and developing more Aboriginal ways of learning and doing in their classrooms.

  • The Ladder of feedback – Teachers are using the ladder of feedback with students to identify and build reflection on their learning process.

  • Goal setting and student goals on report cards – all teachers have been developing student goals on report cards.

  • Garden Project – We have just started a Garden project that will include Whole School collaboration and ownership of a new learning space.

Myrtle Ed Talks.

The Myrtle Ed Talks have been a 7 year public speaking program put together through the collaborative efforts of our intermediate teaching team.  We have seen a progression of students develop their progress in this realm.  Reflecting and building on their capacity year after year.
